Parks & Trails New York Grants

Parks & Trails New York administers two competitive grant programs on an annual basis. Both programs have specific eligibility requirements. If your organization or municipality is not eligible, please check our listings of other sources of funding on our main organization website.

Park and Trail Partnership Grants Program

Administered in partnership with the NY Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) and funded through the Environmental Protection Fund—these grants support a wide array of partner efforts, from raising private funds for capital projects and performing maintenance and beautification tasks, to providing innovative educational programming and hosting special events. These grants are limited to non-profit organizations holding formal agreements with OPRHP or the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.

Trail Town Grants Program

Administered by Parks & Trails New York and with generous funding provided by the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation, Trail Town Grants are competitive grants to support a broader initiative aimed at boosting local economies by leveraging visitation to nearby public lands. The grants can be used to promote place-making efforts, improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists, and implement community-driven projects that prioritize active transportation alternatives for cyclists and pedestrians. These grants are limited to municipalities and non-profit organizations located in select counties in the Western New York region.
